NSW Now: Abortion bill keeps MPs up late, William Tyrrell inquest reopens

Pro-life protesters maintained a vigil outside Parliament for a second night in a row.

Here's what you need to know this morning.

Abortion bill keeps MPs up late

It was a late night at NSW Parliament with debate over the new bill to decriminalise abortion stretching on until 11.00pm.

At one stage a pro-life protester had to be removed from the gallery for causing disruption.

North Shore MP Felicity Wilson, who represents the seat with the highest proportion of women in NSW, said her Christian upbringing had not swayed her stance and she would vote in favour of the bill.

However the Member for Lane Cove, Anthony Roberts, began his speech by quoting the Bible and reading out letters from religious leaders opposing the bill.

Shooters, Fishers and Farmers MP for Orange Phillip Donato was one of many who criticised the "haste" at which the bill was being pushed through.

"However these concerns do not prevent me from outrightly supporting the bill. [A] woman should not fear prosecution if she chooses to have an abortion," he said.

William Tyrrell inquest reopens

The inquest into the disappearance of toddler William Tyrrell resumes in Sydney today before moving to the NSW mid-north coast.

The then three-year-old vanished from the home of his foster grandmother at Kendall in September 2014, with police investigating a suspected paedophile ring in the area and sifting through thousands of pieces of evidence.

Despite a $1 million reward, no-one has been charged over his disappearance.

The inquest opened in March but will resume at Lidcombe Coroners Court today before moving to Taree on the mid-north coast.

Man in custody after parents found dead

A man remains under police guard in hospital after allegedly murdering his parents in Sydney's south.

Police officers found Diana Reid, 71, and Graham Reid, 75, with multiple injuries at a Sutherland home yesterday.

Their 46-year-old son, David, was arrested and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

No charges have been laid.
