Live news completely derailed as singing sea shanty group drown out presenter

A news reporter was photobombed by a sea shanty group while presenting live on air - and had to compete to be heard over the 11 acapella singers.

Hala Gorani is an American journalist, news anchor, and correspondent for CNN International, and recently she was contributing to a live piece about Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu from sunny Cornwall.

But as she did so, a floating stage drifted behind her and came into shot - as the 11 men on board, who make up local sea shanty group The Oggymen, began to belt out some Cornish classics, as Cornwall Live reports.

The combined harmonies of the acapella group then completely drowned out Hala, but she thankfully saw the funny side and later tweeted about her experience.

Hala took to Twitter to share a clip of the news interruption, which she captioned: "When you’re anchoring the Israeli Knesset confidence vote and a traditional a capella sea shanty singing barge floats past your location."

The reporter later tweeted The Oggymen saying she would have involved them in the show were it not for the Israel vote, adding that they "sound fabulous".

Bruce Cornish from The Oggymen replied: “I can't breathe (with laughter).

“It honestly wasn't our intention to disrupt but it seems to have been taken in the right spirit. It's great because it might also spread the message about Cornish child poverty too so win, win.”

Many Twitter users took to the social media site to comment on the incident, with most people praising Hala for keeping her cool.

Twitter user @JogobonitoJDUB said: "When you’re on a sea shanty barge and a reporter barges in on your singing."

And Juan Abbas added: "Not pressurizing at all! Hala you're doing an awesome job, though we could barely hear you. How could you even think in that noise?"

While @ContraryMeri added: "Kind of wish we had more of the shanty singing. No offense to you but they were quite good."
