Live music returns to UK this summer with drive-in concerts - with strict rules

Open air music concerts are being planned by Live Nation amid the coronavirus pandemic.

By changing how the live events run and putting measures in place music fans will be able to see some of their favourite acts perform from July at 12 venues across the country.

And already a number of big names such as Tony Hadley from Spandau Ballet, Russell Watson, Gary Numan and The Streets have agreed to perform over the summer as part of the Utilita Live From The Drive-In shows.

Other stars performing include Ash, Brand New Heavies, Embrace, Jack Savoretti, Beverley Knight Bjorn Again Brainiac live, Brand New Heavies, Camp Bestical Live, Cream Classical Ibiza, Dizzee Rascal, Embrace, Kaiser Chiefs, Lightening Seeds, Nao, Nathan Dawe, Reggae Roast vs Gentleman's Dub Club, Russell Watson, Sheku and Isata Kanneh-Mason and Skindred.

Some of the new rules put in place by the entertainment company are sure to thrill some fans - such as being allowed to bring their own booze - but other measures such as not allowing people to leave the venue may be a surprise to others.

Another major shake-up will be that fans will drive-in to the concerts and listen from their vehicles. and there will be a maximum of 300 cars per venue and each automobile can have seven people inside.

Ticket holders will be allowed to get out of their cars to an allocated small space, where they are allowed to bring folding chairs and their own booze.

However they can't veer from their own designated area. They also can't leave the venue – and if there is an emergency they have to put their hazard lights on.

Music bosses have secured a number of large venues to stage the series of shows including Teesside International Airport, the University of Bolton Stadium, Cheltenham Racecourse, Leeds East Airport and Lincolnshire Showground. Other shows are in Liverpool, London, Milton Keynes and Newmarket Racecourse.

Talking about the series of gigs, Peter Taylor, Live Nation Promoter said: “This outdoor concert series was created as a way to reimagine the live music experience during a time of social distancing by allowing fans to enjoy concerts in the safest way possible.

"Each event will comply with all official Government guidelines in order to protect fans, artists, crews and staff. We look forward to announcing some of the biggest names across UK music and bringing these fantastic artists to a city near you."

Tickets go on sale Monday June 22 at 8am at Livenation.co.uk.
