Funeral insurance hard sell motivated by Vespa, cruise sales incentives

Insurance company Select offered a Vespa scooter and Sydney-Sunshine Coast cruise as an incentive for phone sales staff to sell more policies, resulting in a spike in funeral policies sold to Indigenous customers.

The financial services royal commission heard from an Aboriginal customer with English as a second language who had been signed up to Let's Insure through aggressive phone selling tactics and paid out more nearly $1,900 in premiums before Legal Aid had her policy cancelled and payments refunded.
