French bars, restaurants and parks to reopen with restrictions from June 2

French Prime Minister Édouard Philippe is on Thursday presenting the details of phase two of France’s plan to lift its nationwide coronavirus lockdown. Philippe is expected to announce relaxed rules on travel and parks, as well as a time frame for when the country’s struggling restaurant industry might be able to open again after more than two months. The French PM has so far announced the following:

  • French bars, restaurants, cafés, parks and beaches to reopen with restrictions from June 2.
  • The Paris region is no longer deemed a “red” coronavirus danger zone, with risk in the area moved down a notch to “orange”.
  • France now able to test “everyone who displays symptoms”.
  • Controversial Stop Covid-19 app “won’t geolocate” the French. The app will be ready for use on June 2.
  • French junior high schools and high schools will be able to reopen “faster than expected”.
