As it happened: Labor falls short of majority, but Palaszczuk confident

Labor has made a number of gains in south-east Queensland, but losses in the north are preventing it from securing 47 seats, the number Annastacia Palaszczuk needs to form a majority state government.

Ms Palaszczuk remains confident she will secure a majority when the results in 10 seats — still too close to call on Saturday night — are finalised in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Pauline Hanson's bid to parachute former senator Malcolm Roberts into a Queensland seat at the eleventh hour has failed, while One Nation may be looking for a new state leader after Steve Dickson tanked in Buderim.
