As it happened: 'No empathy, no compassion, no apology', farmer slams ANZ at commission

The first farmer takes the stand at the royal commission and slams ANZ for treating him and his wife without any empathy or compassion, and failing to offer an apology for years of financial hardship.

Tasmanian cattle farmer and timber grower Michael Hirst was the first farmer to give evidence this week, after commissioner Kenneth Hayne granted a request from Mr Hirst's barrister.

The commission also hears how Rabobank cost a Queensland cattle grazier a million dollars by encouraging her and her husband into a property purchase before pulling financing support shortly afterwards.

Find out how today's hearing unfolded in the blog.
