HS2 looks set to the given the green light today, with prime minister Boris Johnson expected to confirm that it will come to Leeds.
In a speech at Westminster, the PM will announce that Europe's largest infrastructure project will go ahead, without any cutbacks, after months of uncertainty.
He had previously suggested that HS2 could be scrapped and accused managers of the project for being "profligate" with taxpayers' money, but in February he reaffirmed the Conservative government's commitment to building the high-speed rail link.
The decision comes after an independent review, lead by former HS2 chairman Douglas Oakervee, recommended the government should proceed with the HS2, even though Parliament has been misled about the "out of control costs".
