Liv Tyler quits 911: Lone Star over ‘fear of flying during pandemic’

Liv Tyler has quit the US TV show 911: Lone Star amid concerns about flying during the coronavirus pandemic.

Tyler starred alongside Rob Lowe in the series, which is a spin-off from the Ryan Murphy police drama 911 starring Angela Bassett.

Tyler, who is based in the UK with her husband Dave Gardner and their children, commuted back and forth to Los Angeles to film the show’s first season.

As the US entertainment industry prepares to reopen for filming, however, Tyler has chosen to withdraw from the show instead of replicating the same commuting arrangement for its second season.

“The coronavirus pandemic and the uncertainty surrounding travel amid a potential new wave of infections in the fall made continuing on the show a difficult proposition for Tyler,” Deadline Hollywood has claimed.

911: Lone Star’s showrunner Tim Minear confirmed Tyler’s exit in a statement.

“What a thrill it was having a movie star of Liv Tyler’s stature to help us launch the first season of 911: Lone Star,” Minear said.

“We loved working with Liv and will be forever indebted to her for her haunting, powerful portrayal of Michelle Blake... The door here will always be open for a return.”

In a coincidence that will likely satisfy the show’s fans, the major story arc for Tyler’s character, which involved the search for her missing sister, was resolved at the end of the show’s first season.

Suits star Gina Torres has been recruited to fill the void of Tyler, playing the captain of a squad of paramedics.
