LIV rebel earned more in three events than in 19 PGA Tour starts despite lowly finishes

Pat Perez has remarkably earned more in three LIV Golf events than in 19 PGA Tour starts - despite the American finishing no higher than 15th.

The lucrative LIV Golf series is funded by Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund and it has divided golf, leaving the PGA and DP World Tours fractured after the new series poached some of the sports biggest names. Several of the world’s most prominent players have decided to switch to LIV Golf, including the likes of Phil Mickelson, Brooks Koepka, and Dustin Johnson.

After the inaugural event at Centurion Golf Club in June, Perez was one of a number of PGA Tour players who wanted to make the switch. He unashamedly revealed his intentions ahead of the Portland Invitational, admitting he chose LIV over the PGA Tour was akin to ‘winning the lottery’.

Perez also signed on the original 11-man list of plaintiffs who filed the antitrust lawsuit against the PGA Tour, although he claimed he didn’t think it through and subsequently took his name off the list. The 46-year-old won three times on the Tour, with his last win coming at the CIMB Classic in 2018.

While he hasn’t finished in the top 10 at LIV Golf events in Portland, Bedminster and Boston, Perez has been on the winning team at each event as part of the 4 Aces. As a result, he has earned a vast amount of prize money.

Perez has incredibly earned more in three events than he did in his 19 starts on the PGA Tour in 2023. Including three separate team bonuses of $750,000, he has earned £2,655,667 so far.

Who do you think will be the next big name to join LIV Golf? Let us know in the comments section.

During his time on the Tour, he earned just $1,071,981 - less than half of his LIV Golf earnings. Ultimately, Perez was certainly right in his decision to switch to the breakaway series.

Players who have joined the LIV Golf series - bankrolled by a Saudi Arabian regime renowned for their human rights abuses - were handed immediate and indefinite bans from the PGA Tour. The DP World Tour have implied they will fine the rebels and suspend them from future events but they haven’t issued a ban just yet.
