LIV Golf confirm 2023 schedule with four new countries to stage events

LIV Golf has announced an expanded 14-event calendar that will be staged across seven different countries in 2023.

The insurgent rebel LIV series is hoping to build momentum after its disruptive emergence fractured the world of professional golf last year.

And the breakaway series - backed by the Saudi Public Investment Fund - will host events across the world in its first full season with notable stops in Mexico, Australia, Singapore and Spain. Each of the invitational 54-hole events will take place on weeks outside the four major championships and the hotly-anticipated Ryder Cup in September.

Crucially, there will also be no clashes in the calendar with the PGA Tour's elevated events and the DP World Tour's showpiece Rolex Series tournaments.

LIV Golf chief Greg Norman said: "We received tremendous feedback globally from fans throughout our beta-test year, with one resounding theme: LIV Golf’s team format, innovations, and festival-like events are delivering a one-of-a-kind golf experience.

"Last year helped lay the foundation for the future of golf at extraordinary courses that have hosted some of the world's top competitions. LIV Golf's schedule features fantastic venues and championship sites for our official league launch that will carry the sport into a new era."

LIV's season opener will take place at El Camaleon Golf Club in Mexico from February 24-26 and there is a visit to the The Gallery Golf Club in Tucson in Arizona from March 17-19.

Orange County National in Orlando will stage a LIV event the week before the Masters from March 31-April 2, with trips to Adelaide and Singapore to follow for LIV defectors after the first major of the year at Augusta.

Former Ryder Cup venue Valderrama, seen as a real coup for LIV, will play host in June before a return to the Centurion Club outside London, where the enterprise controversially launched its first event last summer.

Donald Trump's Doral Golf Club in Mimai staged the inaugural team championship finale in October, but the 2023 season climax will take place in Jeddah, Saudi from November 3-5.

Trump is still likely to be heavily involved however, after attending both LIV events at his courses in 2022. The former US president's Bedminster course was also part of LIV's inaugural circuit and the Trump National Club in Washington D.C has been added to the new schedule for an event from May 26-28.

LIV have yet to announce their final playing rosters ahead of next month's launch, but the global league will have a mammoth $405m (£327m) prize purse, a $150m (£121m) increase on last year's eight event schedule.

Cameron Smith, Dustin Johnson and Bryson DeChambeau will be among the high-profile names involved once again after joining LIV last year.

Patrick Reed - the maligned American embroiled in a bitter spat with Rory McIlroy before an enthralling battle with the world number one at the Dubai Desert Classic on Monday - will also be part of the 48-player LIV fields in 2023.
