Little tearoom's brilliant response to one star review on website

A scenic Welsh tea room has left a brilliant response after being left with a one star on a reviews site.

Tu Hwnt i'r Bont, a stunning attraction in the town of Llanrwst, Conwy, was initially built as a farmhouse but was later repurposed into a traditional Welsh tea room.

The bakery supplying handmade cakes responded to the review on Google Reviews, gaining support from customers who argued that the reviewer did not deserve a "delicious scone in a beautiful setting".

The review criticised the unannounced closure of the tea room.

In the review, user Ros Allery said: "What a beautiful location and such wonderful reviews! Unfortunately, today 10:55 Fri 22 Oct, the tea rooms are closed, despite saying open on the website. We were not the only visitors in the car park."

Responding to the review directly on Google Reviews, the owner explained the sudden closure was for good reason.

"Yes, sadly we had to close for the season with very short notice on Friday morning. 3 of our staff have been told to isolate, and at this stage of the season that makes it impractical for us to open.

"We have updated our website accordingly, although the changes probably didn’t publish until late on Friday. We’re looking forward to reopening for the 2022 season in the spring," they said.

With the negative review being left by the user, despite never stepping foot in the venue. The Welsh tea room posted a question on their social media to it's following.

Users on social media rallied to the support of Tu Hwnt i'r Bont with some describing the review as "selfish".

Having taken the responsible decision to close due to several staff members self isolating after Covid cases, followers have supported the rant and even taken upon themselves to report the review.

As the tea room closes for the season, it will reopen in February 2022.

WalesOnline contacted Tu Hwnt i'r Bont but they declined to comment.
