Little Simz's Grey Area scoops Ivor Novello award for Best Album

Little Simz today won best album while fellow rapper Dave took home best contemporary song at the 65th Ivor Novello awards.

Simz, from Islington, triumphed with Grey Area, while Streatham artist Dave won with the single Black from his Mercury and Brit award winning album Psychodrama.

Speaking after being announced as the winner, Simz said she was "humbled" and "blessed" to have received the award, adding: "This is the one that's probably the most important because it's about the songwriting, and it's about the skill of the pen. I'm super, super grateful to have been recognised."

The winners, unveiled by Matt Wilkinson on Apple Music 1, also included Jamie Cullum, who received best song musically and lyrically for his track The Age Of Anxiety. The award for the best television soundtrack was given to Labrinth, for Euphoria.

Elsewhere, there was recognition for south London artist Mysie, who won the Rising Star award, while Haxan Cloak won best original film score for his work on Midsommar.
