The cult musical comedy Little Shop of Horrors tours Australia, directed by Dean Bryant and choreographed by Andrew Hallsworth. And physical theatre and puppetry company Erth have joined forces to create a new Audrey II, the musical’s vicious plant that feeds on human blood, for the Australian tour.
One of the longest-running off-Broadway musicals of all time, the show was inspired by the 1960 Roger Corman film of the same name.
Nerdy florist shop worker Seymour Krelborn and his colleague Audrey dream of escaping their down-and-out lives on skid row in New York. It doesn’t look promising until Seymour digs out his plant (named after his co-worker crush) and customers are drawn to come and see it.
Soon enough, Audrey II grows into a foul-mouthed, smooth-talking R&B-singing carnivore. But as the customers come, Seymour’s ambition grows, and soon he finds himself going to extensive lengths to battle the perilous, persuasive plant.
