Little Scots girl's heartwarming letter to 'amazing' NHS workers sent to all staff by health chiefs

A Scots girl has penned a heart-warming letter to 'hero' NHS staff battling the coronavirus pandemic.

Little Lily Shaw wrote the note praising the local NHS and care workers for 'risking their lives' amid the fight agains the 'horrible virus'.

The 11-year-old, from Portlethen, near Aberdeen, and her teacher asked if the handwritten letter could be shared to the staff.

NHS Grampian health board were so impressed they sent it along as part of their daily staff brief and also put it on their Facebook page.

Lily's letter has since gathered nearly 200 likes and has been shared multiple times.

It reads: "Dear NHS and Key workers, I wanted to write you a little note to say a massive thank you for all that you have done and continue to do during this horrible virus.

"My family and I are very grateful and thankful for all you are doing.

"You have put your lives and the lives of your family and loved ones at risk to save and protect others.

"You should be very proud of everything you do.

"It is very scary for everyone but it must be extremely scary and terrifying for you."

Lily then writes that she thinks of words like 'amazing', 'caring' and 'heroes' when she watches NHS staff on the news.

Her letter adds: "Keep up the good work and keep strong!'

The health board wrote on Facebook: "We received a letter today from Lily Shaw, aged 11, from Portlethen. Lily and her teacher, Mrs Lindsay, asked if we could share this with of our staff. We have shared it in our daily staff brief but thought we'd share it here too. #ProudToBeNHSG #ThankYou"
