Little Mix take swipe at Simon Cowell in new single ‘Not a Pop Song'

Little Mix have released their new single, titled “This is Not a Pop Song”, which appears to make a thinly veiled dig at their former label boss, Simon Cowell

The track is taken from the group’s forthcoming album, Confetti, which is scheduled to release on 6 November.

It follows the release of singles “Break Up Song” and “Holiday”, and asserts the group’s message of female empowerment and independence.

The lyrics, meanwhile, appear to reference Little Mix’s departure from Cowell’s label, SYCO, in 2018.

Both parties have previously implied the split was due to differences in opinion in the direction Little Mix should take in their careers.

The lyrics in “Not a Pop Song” include the lines: “I don’t do what Simon says / Get the message cuz it’s read / That’s just life it never plays fair / Said to follow any dream, be a puppet on a string / Works for you but that isn’t me.”

The track comes amid praise for Little Mix’s new TV talent show, The Search, in which they assemble pop groups in the hope of finding one to support them on next year’s Confetti tour.

In a review for The Independent, the show was hailed for its kinder approach to reality TV, and for the girl group’s natural charisma as both hosts and mentors.
