Little Mix's Jade Thirlwall celebrates as her South Shields bar re-opens

Little Mix star Jade Thirlwall celebrated the re-opening of her bar in South Shields as lockdown restrictions eased further across the UK.

At the end of 2019, the 28-year-old South Tyneside native opened Red Door right in the heart of town and, last year decided to give it a re-brand in honour of Shields' proud Roman history.

She changed its name to Arbeia, the name of the Roman fort just a few minutes away from the premises, and, prior to coronavirus shutting everything down, the Ocean Road bar had established itself as a real cocktail hotspot.

It also hosted regular live music nights, one of which saw Jade belt out a bit of Proud Mary with local band Rivelino.

Her memorable performance of the Tina Turner classic happened in January 2020, months before the first national. lockdown.

Like many other hospitality businesses, Arbeia re-opened last summer, before then having to close again as local and, then more national, lockdown rules were enforced.

But on Monday, Arbeia officially re-opened, with Jade sharing her delight at the huge step, nearly a week on from Little Mix's historic win at the Brit Awards.

She shared a post from the bar on her Instagram story on Sunday night, writing: "Arbeia South Shields is re-opening tomorrow!" along with crying and love heart emojis.

The bar itself posted on Facebook to invite customers to take advantage of the 2 for £9.95 cocktails and to remind them rule of six and track and trace would be in operation, with table service only.

There was big reason for Jade and her family back in Shields to celebrate on Tuesday as she and bandmates Perrie Edwards and Leigh-Anne Pinnock took to the Brits' winners podium when Little Mix became the first female act to win the British Group accolade.

Jade's mam Norma reacted to the triumph on Instagram, writing: "Absolutely buzzing and so proud! The first and only girl group EVER to win Best British Group, history has been made!!

Congratulations, you work so bloody hard and deserved this so much. I’ve got the champagne on ice for when you get back pet"
