Little Mix's Jade Thirlwall backs Labour as she tells fans to 'use your voice' in the General Election

Little Mix singer Jade Thirlwall has thrown her support behind the Labour Party, in an impassioned statement to nearly 12 million followers.

The South Shields-born artist spoke about her "working class background", saying Jeremy Corbyn's party would fund the arts and fight climate change, The Mirror reports .

The chart-topping performer, who has a huge youth following, wrote on Thursday night: "I will be voting Labour tomorrow but mostly because I believe in their manifesto. Coming from a working class background, I know it's important we have a government which supports everyone and not the few.

"Labour believes in funding the arts. They support the fight against climate change. Their manifesto supports equality and the LGBT community."

But she urged fans to turn up at the polling station whichever party they supported.

She told Little Mix's 11.9m followers: "I grew up knowing the importance of taking part in our society and realising that we all have a choice and we all have a voice.

"I want to use my platform to encourage you to do the same and use your voice tomorrow in the General Election.

"Young people are less likely to vote but it's so important that you do and have a say in the future of your country. Who you vote for is your decision but whatever you do, make sure you use your vote."

She added: "Whoever and however you vote tomorrow, be proud of your choice and use your voice."

She closed the statement with a red rose emoji, often used by Labour supporters on Twitter, and shared a picture of herself holding up a shirt bearing the party's slogan, "for the many not the few".

The tweet was posed on Wednesday night and by Thursday morning had been retweeted nearly 10,000 times.
