Little Mix pay tribute to Jesy Nelson as they make history at the BRIT Awards

Little Mix thanked their incredible fans and former band mate Jesy Nelson as they made history at the Brit Awards tonight.

Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Jade Thirlwall and Perrie Edwards left viewers emotional as they picked up the British Group Award, the first female band ever to do so.

It comes after Leigh-Anne and Perrie announced their respective pregnancies this week.

Upon receiving the award, Perrie revealed the girls had written down a speech.

"Two of us have baby brains so we had to write it down," she explained to the crowd.

Before adding: "Oh my goodness, guys, we have just made history, I feel very emotional."

The girls then thanked their fans and former bandmate Jesy Nelson, who announced she was leaving the group in December 2020.

Leigh-Anne, said: "We have been together for ten years, it's been the best years of our lives, we've gone through so much. We've had so much fun and made so many beautiful memories. We want to start by thanking our incredible fans, of course Jesy, and our amazing team."

She added: "It's not easy being a female in the UK pop industry. We have seen white male dominance, misogyny, sexism and lack of diversity. We're proud of how we've stuck together, stood our ground, surrounded ourselves with strong women and are now using our voices more than ever."

Jade added: "The fact that a girl band has never won this award really does speak volumes, so this award isn't just for us. It's for the Spice Girls, Sugababes, All Saints, Girls Aloud, all the incredible, incredible female bands, this one's for you."

Earlier in the evening the trio looked stunning as Leigh-Anne and Perrie cradled their baby bumps on the red carpet.

It was Little Mix's first appearance on the red carpet since Jesy's departure from the group after nine years.

The singer shared an emotional message with fans on social media in December 2020 and said the pressure of being in a girl-band and living up to expectations was "very hard."
