Little Mix get Spice Girls' seal of approval after historic Brits win

Spice Girls took to social media on Tuesday night to react to Little Mix's historic win at the Brit Awards.

The now trio, who first shot to fame on The X Factor in 2011, achieved a huge first at the annual event by becoming the first female act to win the British Group accolade, beating the likes of The 1975 and Bicep to take home the coveted trophy.

Perrie Edwards, Jade Thirlwall and Leigh-Anne Pinnock looked stunned when Little Mix were called as winners and, as well as thanking former bandmate Jesy Nelson in their acceptance speech, the Sweet Melody group also paid tribute to other girl groups who'd been nominated for British Group in the past but didn't win.

Jade said Little Mix's award was for Spice Girls, All Saints, Sugababes and Girls Aloud and the Spice Girls, who have been largely absent from the spotlight since their huge stadium tour as a four piece in 2019, returned the favour tweeting their congratulations.

A post on the legendary band's Twitter account read: "Congratulations @LittleMix. Doing it for the Girls!!"

While Spice Girls never took home the Best Group accolade from the Brits, they did win a number of awards over the years and also gave us an iconic performance in 1997 with Geri Halliwell in THAT Union Jack dress.

And their fans lapped up their message to Little Mix. One replied: "YASSS QUEENS!! IT'S THE WIN FOR ALL OF YOU" and another reacted: "This award is for every female group that was robbed. LITTLE MIX MADE HISTORY."

A third posted: "This award is for every female group that was robbed. LITTLE MIX MADE HISTORY"

As well as paying tribute to other girl groups in their winners' speech, Leigh-Anne addressed the struggles Little Mix have faced during their 10 years in the spotlight.

She said: "It's not easy being a female in the UK pop industry. We've seen the white male dominance, misogyny, sexism and lack of diversity.

"We're proud of how we've stuck together, stood our ground, surrounded ourselves with strong women and are now using our voices more than ever."
