Little Mix Belfast show leaves fans young and old feeling the Power

Little Mix made their sensational return to Belfast on Sunday night as they kicked off the UK and Ireland leg of their LM5 tour in the city.

Emerging from the ceiling in the SSE arena on a brightly lit platform the ladies dressed in red and black ensembles were greeted with deafening screams from their thousands of fans as they launched into hit Salute.

The first thing that struck me as I watched the ladies do their thing on stage was just how young some of their fans are. Little girls with their mums and dads some of them attending their very first concert all dressed head to toe in Little Mix merchandise complete with sparkly tutus and flashing bunny ears.

I was too young and probably too involved in it myself to realise the impact the Spice Girls had on their young fans with the Girl Power movement back in the 90s, but I imagine looking back now Little Mix are stepping into that role and creating a whole new era of Girl Power.

Messages of female empowerment featured heavily in the show which saw the four ladies barely take a breath as they belted out hit after hit and simultaneously performed high energy dance routines keeping up with their incredible backing dancers at all times.

There was also a nod to the criticism the girls have received in the past from some sections of the media over their costumes and attitude in their 'Say it to My Face' montage which also included a little dig at the ever vocal Piers Morgan and his on screen rants.

While some have taken offence at what Jesy, Leigh-Anne, Jade and Perrie are promoting I found it empowering and actually believe the girls are setting a brilliant example for their young fans.

It was hard not to smile just by catching glimpse of their fans some no more than 6 or 7 years old, giving it everything they had dancing along to their hits including Black Magic, Shout out to My Ex and Wings and screaming hysterically when their idols so much as looked in their direction, it really was heartwarming.

In a nod to her own personal battles which she has recently bravely opened up about, Jesy dedicated their song The Cure to fans who were also going through tough times saying, "Anyone going through a struggle right now, know that you are not alone and I promise you it will get better."

Jade who was nursing a very hoarse throat battled on through her tough vocals with the help of the fans as the girls emerged in sheer and gold sparkle floor length gowns and flew across the arena on their triangular platform which was then lit up in rainbow colours as they dedicated Secret Love Song to their LGBT fans.

In my eyes, Little Mix aren't in any shape or form a 'bad influence' that some people have made them out to be, if anything they're empowering young girls to be brave, strong, fierce, and whatever shape or size they so choose so long as they're happy and doing what they love.

So I Salute Little Mix they definitely left fans in the SSE feeling they had the Power.
