Little Miss Sunshine star Abigail Breslin says she is taking a break from social media after receiving online abuse because she chooses to wear a face mask.
The 25-year-old received a lot of hateful messages for simply following Covid-19 guidelines and wearing a facemask to protect herself and others.
One troll called her a 'loser' for wearing a mask while riding a rollercoaster. Her father had died from Covid-related complications in February last year at the age of 78.
The user posted: “Who’s the pathetic loser wearing a mask?”
She responded: “That pathetic loser would be me, someone who lost their dad due to someone not wearing a mask and giving him Covid. You can kindly go f*** off now.”
The troll continued and made the shocking claim that her father died as he was 'weak'. She was defended by fans.
The abusive social media user had replied to one of Abigail's defenders named Jillian: "I'm pretty sure wearing a mask isn't going to save anyone's life lol.
"Clearly I know more than her if she thinks someone who wasn't wearing a mask killed her father when in reality he was weak."
A day later, she posted a snap of her and her friends hanging out but a fan was miffed that no one in the photo was wearing a mask.
"She's upset that people are not wearing their masks but yet here nobody is... what a hypocrite," the user commented.
Abigail responded: "We took ours off for one photo. Everyone present was vaccinated as well as being tested beforehand.
"I was calling someone out for telling me my father was 'weak' because he passed away from Covid and said I was a 'pathetic loser' for wearing my mask on a public ride with strangers."

She added: "I wear my mask always around others except for friends I know are vaccinated and have been tested beforehand."
Abigail shared the screenshot of that response in her latest post and explained she was leaving social media 'for a while'.
She captioned the screenshot: “Ok this will be my last post for a while because I do not need to further explain myself.”
In February last year, the actress - who has also starred in Scream Queens - revealed her dad's death from the virus on social media.
"At 6:32 PM EST, my sweet, perfect, amazing, heroic, wonderful dada passed away after my family and I said goodbye," she wrote at the time.
