Little Liverpool fan knocked out by lamp-post wants to follow in Mo Salah's footsteps

An 11-year-old who bumped into a lamp-post while chasing Mo Salah wants to follow in his footsteps and become a top scorer for Liverpool FC.

Louis Fowler's remarkable story has made headlines around the world for the past week.

It all started when he was waiting outside Melwood training ground hoping to catch a glimpse of his footballing idol last weekend.

However in his excitement he ran straight into a lamp-post while chasing Salah's car.

The young fan was temporarily knocked out and his nose was put out of joint.

So concerned was Salah that he turned his Bentley around and was at the Close where Louis and his brother Isaac live even before the ambulance arrived.

Now Louis, who has returned to Melwood to spot more players, said his ambition is to play for Liverpool when he's older.

Louis said of Salah: "He was really worried about me, telling me to be safe.

"Then my brother started crying with happiness. He got a picture, and I got a picture.

"Even though I have hurt my nose badly, I think it was a good day overall since I met Salah."

Louis' experience and the pictures of him and his brother with Salah led to a trip to London for appearances on Good Morning Britain and the BBC's Victoria Derbyshire show.

The story was also picked up by ITV Granada and Sky Sports, as well as Radio 5 Live and Radio 1's Newsbeat.

Among those sharing step-dad Joe Cooper's original tweet were Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker .

Joe said: "It's been pretty crazy, especially since we were on Good Morning Britain on Monday.

"It's been a great ride. It's been like a wave, and we went along with it.

"The boys have had a great time. It's been really exciting for them and they've loved all the attention.

"It's a once-in-a-lifetime experience for them and they've had the time of their lives.

"It's lovely to see how positive everyone has been."

Joe revealed that both boys have ambitions to be footballers - Isaac's Playstation account name is even LFCFC (Liverpool FC Future Captain).

Louis is also a talented self-taught pianist and Joe posted a video of him performing a spine-tingling rendition of You'll Never Walk Alone ahead of the Istanbul Super Cup.

Speaking in the video, Louis said: "I just want to say thank you so much for all the positive comments.

"It has obviously been a crazy week but Mo's lovely actions and the feedback from you all has made me feel like I actually will never walk alone.

"So this is for you all."
