Little leaguer Mo'ne Davis to be subject of Disney movie

March 20--Mo'ne Davis, the little league star who helped set television records for ESPN, will be the subject of an upcoming biopic by Disney.

Davis took center stage last summer when at 13 years old she became the first girl to pitch a shutout at the Little League World Series. More than 5 million viewers on average watched her next start against Las Vegas, giving ESPN a rating of 3.1, the highest-ever for the event on the network.

"A year ago, I never would have thought that Disney Channel would make a movie about me," Davis said according to Variety. "I can't wait to get started, and I hope it will encourage other viewers to believe that dreams really do come true."

She and ESPN will serve as consultants for the movie.

"Mo'ne is not only a top-notch athlete in three different sports -- baseball, basketball and soccer -- but she is an exemplary student and someone who will remind our audiences that they can do anything with hard work, dedication and belief in themselves," vice president of original movies for Disney Channels Naketha Mattocks said.

Davis' rise to fame has included a Sports Illustrated cover, an appearance at the celebrity game during NBA All-Star weekend and the release of a shoe line.
