A cleaning enthusiast has shared a little-known washing machine hack that has left others speechless.
A woman was stunned to find her washing machine drawer was filled with grime after discovering it could be removed and cleaned separately. She couldn’t believe the drawer could be dismantled, enabling her to really give it a good clean with an old toothbrush and washing up liquid.
The woman then took to Facebook to post her discovery on the cleaning tips and tricks group, along with pictures of her compartment before and after cleaning. Others were quick to add the hack was new to them too, describing it as 'life-changing', EdinburghLive reports.

She wrote: "How on earth did I not know this draw came out?! I’m not officially an adult and love cleaning haha! Thank you everyone for your cleaning tips and tricks". Before long, the post attracted almost 100 likes and dozens of comments from fellow cleaning enthusiasts, with one saying "I didn't know that either."
Another wrote: "They say you learn something everyday. Well today I learned this thank you." While a third added: "I brought a second hand washing machine and had it for 3 years (no idea how long they had it) before I pulled the drawer out and it was thick with black mould I had never seen anything like it couldn't believe I was washing my clothes in that filth. Pull mine out once a month now."
Other users recommended tips to help clean the compartment. One person suggested applying "science" by pouring boiling water into the detergent drawer which "flushes all that stuff away" and set the machine to wash.
A second wrote: "This grime drives me mad - I clean mine each week now - 6 adults in our horse so washing machine takes a bashing. I also soak the drawer in hot soapy water over night - comes up a treat."
