Little Britain ‘definitely’ making a comeback, reveals co-writer David Walliams

Little Britain co-creator David Walliams has revealed that the hit comedy will “definitely” be back on our screens at some point in the future.

Six series of the programme aired between 2003 and 2007, and last year, Walliams and Matt Lucas revisited some of their best-known characters for a one-off Radio 4 special.

Speaking to the Sun, Walliams has now teased that they’ll be penning more material - and this time around, it will be on TV again.

He told the paper: “I would say there will definitely be some more Little Britain coming.

“I can’t say when exactly but at the right time and place. It was fun coming back for radio because that’s where we started.”

The Radio 4 special aired on October 31, which had been the date the UK was set to formally leave the EU.

“We had to put it together quite quickly as it was about Brexit,” Walliams explained. “Plus no one expected us to come back on the radio.

“You would have expected Comic Relief or a big live tour. The reaction was great, which was encouraging.”

In recent years, Walliams and Lucas have faced criticism over a number of their characters and the depiction of minority groups.

In 2017, Lucas admitted he would do things differently if the show were ever revived.

He told the Big Issue magazine: “If I could go back and do Little Britain again, I wouldn’t make those jokes about transvestites. I wouldn’t play black characters.

“Basically, I wouldn’t make that show now. It would upset people. We made a more cruel kind of comedy than I’d do now.

“Society has moved on a lot since then and my own views have evolved.”
