Little boy will have fitting send-off after family friend from West Lothian hires supercar for funeral

A little boy who drowned while playing with friends will have the send-off he deserved after loved ones hired a Bugatti supercar for his funeral.

Dean Irvine (11), from Hamilton, had been playing in the water at Alexander Hamilton Memorial Park in Stonehouse on Saturday afternoon before getting into difficulty.

He was pulled from the water after emergency services rushed to the area but was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Family friend Marina Weir, who stays in Livingston, launched a Gofundme page to hire a hire a Bugatti for the day as the schoolboy loved cars.

The money will also be put towards his funeral, which will be held on August 5.

She said her “heart is bursting with joy” after she managed to hire the Bugatti for his funeral.

And so far £3,480 has been raised on her fundraising page, which will also help towards the cost of his funeral.

Marina said: “Wee Dean was the most amazing little man and was always happy no matter what.

“Please any sort of help would be nice and we would appreciate all the help from everyone

“We love you so much Dean - fly high handsome boy.”

Tributes to Dean from his heartbroken family were led by his aunt, Jade Law, who wrote: “Dean, you were SO loved I hope you know how much. I am so sorry this terrible accident happened to you.

“I hope you’re looking down on your mummy, daddy, all of your siblings and the rest of the family. We all love you so much.

“Doesn’t feel real at all, there are no words to explain how we feel, you were my first born nephew and always will be. Your cheeky little grin will be remembered forever.

“Rest in peace gorgeous boy, you were taken far too soon from us. Auntie Jade loves you forever wee Dean.”
