Little boy who heard a 'transformer' was coming to Rochdale has his dream come true

A little boy who heard a 'transformer' was coming to Rochdale was left delighted after utility bosses made his dream come true.

Nick Robinson told his three-year-old son Harry that a huge, new transformer was being delivered to a substation near their home.

But little Harry didn't get quite what he was expecting as he watched the 186-tonne transformer arrive.

As a big fan of the Transformer characters, he thought he'd be seeing autobots from the film franchise.

National Grid project manager Richard Westwood heard about Harry's story.

A few days later, Harry and his dad were invited down to the substation to meet 'Bumblebee' - a real-life transformer hero.

Nick said his son was 'delighted'

"A big thank you to the National Grid team, he really was delighted and it is all he has talked about since", he said.

"I’m sure the photo of him and Bumblebee will have pride of place in his room."

Richard Westwood said: "It was great to see so much interest in our transformer delivery and when we heard about Harry’s love for Transformers we called in a favour from our autobot friends.

"I think it is fair to say it was a big surprise for him and I hope the experience inspires him and his friends into engineering in the future.”

The new piece of equipment at the Rochdale substation will adjust the voltage of electricity from the station, helping to keep the energy supply running safely and reliably.

It is the size of small bungalow, and is replacing an old transformer which has now reached the end of its life.
