Little boy left orphaned after mum, dad and brother were killed in Texas mass shooting

A six-year-old boy is the sole survivor of his family who were wiped out at a mass shooting at a mall in Texas.

William Cho's mum, dad and younger brother were killed in the massacre which took place at the Allen Premium Outlets mall in Texas, on May 6.

The young boy, who is originally from Dallas, has now been left orphaned as his parents and siblining were among the eight victims of the mass shooting.

The family were out shopping when a gunman opened fire, killing 37-year-old Kyu Song Cho, his wife Cindy Cho, 35, and their three-year-old son, James.

The only surviving member of the family is six-year-old William, who has been released from the ICU and is said to be 'recovering well', according to a statement released by Medical City Heath.

William's extended family is devastated by the loss of their loved ones, and they are now focused on giving the youngster a happy and healthy life.

"Our hearts are broken for our beloved family members who are no longer with us," the family told ABC News.

"All of our attention is now focused on ensuring William leads a happy, healthy life with his extended family who love him dearly."

James was described as a bright and adorable child, with a love for elephants.

His teacher, Trinity Whitley, told Dallas ABC affiliate WFAA, "And he was a brilliant child. I've never actually met a three-year-old that was that smart.

"He could read and he was writing his own name."

Kyu Cho was an immigration attorney who used his personal experience as an immigrant to better serve his clients, according to his profile on his employer's website.

It read: "In his free time, Kyu enjoys participating in church activities, watching his two young boys grow up, and spending time with his family."

Cindy Cho was a dentist known for her kind heart and dedication to her profession.

A Go FundMe fundraiser created by William's close ones to support his future has so far collected over $1.8 million (£1.4 million) within just three days.

It said: "We are deeply grateful and sincerely appreciate this outpouring love and prayers from all around the country. William is recovering well.

"Both Kyu and Cindy's family will use these funds to help William continue the legacy of his parents."

The entire community is mourning the loss of the Cho family and the other victims of the mass shooting.

"On Saturday, May 6th, Cindy, Kyu, William and James Cho visited the Allen outlet mall together in North Texas," the fundraiser initially read.

"William just celebrated his 6th birthday four days prior and James is 3.

"An afternoon that should have been filled with light, love and celebration unfortunately was cut short by another mass shooting massacre that left eight victims dead.

"Cindy, Kyu and three year old James were among those victims that tragically lost their lives and the family is in deep mourning.

"After being released from the ICU, their six year old son William is the only surviving member of this horrific event."
