An eight-year-old boy who spends his spare time picking up litter and helping in his neighbours’ gardens has been hailed a “little hero” for all his hard work.
While many other kids his age spend their time in front of computer games or the TV, Zack Egan is busy scouring the streets of Knightsridge for litter.
He also loves to help out family and friends with gardening and even made himself a little buggy using old wheels and an old bin that he would pull about the streets with his litter picker.
His nana, Marion Egan, said her grandson is a superstar and always puts other people first.
She told the Courier: “I’m super proud of him.
“There are so many people who pass him who are amazed at what he was doing instead of being stuck in a house playing computer games.
“I gave him his new cart on Friday which I received free-of-charge from Bathgate Dental Spa and he was busy on Friday and Saturday keeping the streets free of litter.
“His aunt was just out of hospital after a shoulder operation on Thursday and that was the first place he wanted to go with his new cart. He did a wonderful job in her garden.
“It’s such a hard time just now and to see a kid doing things like this is amazing.”
Marion said Zack, a pupil at Knightsridge Primary School, has been collecting litter for the past few years.
She continued: “He would pull his buggy about the street with his litter picker that his dad bought for him. He also cleans litter at the play parks he goes to.
“He has had brilliant feedback from people – it’s amazing.
“Zack has always just loved getting out and about and loves to see places that are kept tidy.
“I gave him a section of my garden a few years ago and he has made some planters from old pallets and even painted them himself.
“He is our little hero.”
