A little boy, 7, who died after being hit by a truck in Ballymun has been named locally as Devin Shepherd.
The child was hit at around 4:30pm on Sunday on St. Joseph's Way in Ballymun.
The seven-year-old was immediately taken to Temple Street Children's Hospital but died a short time later.
A local told Dublin Live: "Devin was my best mate's little brother and he was like a little brother to me, still can’t believe it".
Councillors for Ballymun and Finglas have said that although Ballymun has been rocked by the tragedy, it's important for the community to come together.
Councillor Caroline Conroy told Dublin Live: "The whole of Ballymun is shocked and devastated by the news. My thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.
Councillor Mary Callaghan added: "It's a very sad time for Ballymun. It's an unimaginable and tragic thing to happen. It's every parents' worst nightmare.
Councillor Keith Connolly said that the community as a whole were "devastated" and that an "investigation is underway" to find out what happened.
The driver of the truck, 30, was taken to The Mater Hospital but his injuries have been described as not life threatening.
Gardai have confirmed that they are treating the incident as a "workplace accident" and the Health and Safety Authority has been notified.
