Little and Large's last ever on-stage appearance - when and where to watch it

The last ever on-stage appearance of iconic comedy duo Little and Large will be broadcast in full tonight (August 14).

Syd Little and Eddie Large looked back on their glittering decade-spanning careers during a 90-minute talk at Bristol's Slapstick Festival in January 2019.

But it turned out to be the final time the pair would share the same stage.

In April this year, Eddie - who lived in Portishead - died at the age of 78 after catching Covid-19.

The beloved pair's hilarious and touching reunion will be streamed online at 7.30pm tonight, allowing viewers to see Little and Large on screen once again.

The streaming event will be free, but viewers will be asked to donate to charity (Gavin Crilly)

The film, which will be shown on Slapstick's YouTube channel, is free to watch but viewers will be invited to donate to a charity set up in Eddie’s name.

It will be accompanied by a Facebook watch party, which members of Eddie’s family are expected to join.

Aside from brief appearances on shows such as Pointless Celebrities and Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, Little and Large had not performed regularly since 2002, when Eddie - real name Edward McGinnis - developed heart problems.

Syd, Eddie’s sidekick for more than half a century, gave the eulogy at the funeral of his close friend at South Bristol Crematorium in April.

Other films of one-off events organised by Slapstick can also be seen for free on the festival's YouTube channel.

They include the last outing by all three members of The Goodies, prior to Tim Brooke Taylor’s death, also in April from coronavirus and the event at which Sir Ken Dodd received the Aardman Slapstick Comedy Legend Award.

Slapstick Festival director Chris Daniels said: "These are challenging times for everyone involved with entertaining the public and it is particularly tough on small organisations like Slapstick which rely so heavily on year-round fundraising and ticket sales to keep going.

"But we’ve been thrilled by the response so far to our online offerings and the upside is that many more people have been able to experience virtual Slapstick than we’d ever be able to accommodate in any local venue."

To see the final performance of Little and Large, head to Slapstick's YouTube channel at 7.30pm tonight.
