Glasgow City Council say there's no excuse for leaving rubbish behind after litter was seen strewn throughout Kelvingrove Park this weekend.
Dozens poured into the west end park to enjoy the warm weather as lockdown rules were relaxed by the Scottish Government.
However, as people left, bins were overflowing while rubbish had been abandoned on the grass.
The council have confirmed to Glasgow Live that around 40 tonnes of rubbish was collected at the weekend between Kelvingrove and Glasgow Green - the equivalent to nearly four double decker buses in weight.
They are keen to remind Glasgow residents of their responsibilities, urging people to bin their rubbish - or if bins are full - take their litter home with them.
A Glasgow City Council spokesman said: “Due to the very warm weather, it has been no surprise that our parks have been busy since the easing of lockdown last week.
“But people still have a basic responsibility to put their waste in a bin, no matter the circumstances.
“In anticipation of the high numbers in Kelvingrove over the weekend, we emptied the 40,000 litres of bin capacity in the park on Saturday morning.
“We were back on Monday morning to clear up and it was obvious that some people had not made the effort to dispose of their waste appropriately.
“If the nearest bin to someone is full, they should try the next one and so on and failing that, take the rubbish home.
“There is no excuse for dropping litter and it is doubly disappointing that for some people their first step out of lockdown ends up with a mess left in their wake."
Furthermore, the council alluded to difficulties in delivering their full waste collection services amid the pandemic, and urged Glaswegians to 'play their part' in keeping our city clean.
They continued: “The Covid-19 outbreak continues to have an impact on the delivery of our services.
“It shouldn’t have to be said, but people can play their part in the response to the pandemic by simply disposing of their rubbish in the right way.”
