
The Blue Pond, a popular tourist spot in Biei, Hokkaido, is currently lit up with lights, giving the withered larch trees and water a mysterious glow.
The aluminum particles in the artificial pond, which was created to prevent the erosion of Mt. Tokachi, scatter sunlight and gives the pond its blue hue.
"Seeing the contrast between the blue water and the lights is beautiful," a 71-year-old company employee from Uji, Kyoto Prefecture, said.
The Blue Pond will be lit up in the evenings through April 2021.
