Listeners stunned as 98FM Big Breakfast hosts Steven Cooper and Luke O'Faolain leave the station

Listeners were shocked to find that 98FM's Big Breakfast hosts Steven Cooper and Luke O'Faolain have left the station.

The duo hosted their last show on Friday after four years at the station, it emerged yesterday.

A new line-up is expected to be confirmed for the breakfast show shortly, Dublin Live reports.

Many shared their shock, with one saying: "Is this a cruel joke? Ye were missed this morning. Hoping you guys get back together cause you’re a feckin cracking team. Genuinely funny lads, made for the job!! The radio won’t be the same. devo!"

While another added: "Ah, I don't want to like this. Where's the heartbreak button. Got me through the 4 years of 6am buses to college and the homesick drunk nights on my J1 in Myrtle Beach."

Posting a statement on the surprise departure, Luke said: "So, there was no big breakfast with Cooper & Luke today. Last Friday was the last show.

"Breakfast radio isn't something everyone gets to experience. I've always felt privileged to be the voice families listened to in their kitchen, kids wanted on in the car and commuters packed into a Luas distracted themselves with. I absolutely loved hearing listener stories, kids news and audio messages that just said "tuuuuune".

"I'd like to thank everyone at 98FM for the past 4 years. Cooper, you're literally the nicest man on the planet, I wish you all the best in the future.

"Sorry for being such a grump in the mornings. Both Suze and Rachael were fantastic producers, we'd have been lost without you.

"If you ever listened, I hope I made you crack a smile at that ungodly hour of the morning. While I'm absolutely gutted I didn't get to say goodbye, hopefully some time down the road, I'll get to say hello again."

Michael Brett, 98FM Content Director said: “I’d like to thank both Cooper and Luke for their time at 98FM and their commitment to 98FM’s Big Breakfast. We wish them all the best in their future endeavors”.
