Before Lottie's ballet teacher died, she promised to be a ballet dancer. Orphaned a birth, Lottie has been brought up by her strict and not very well-off aunt. She is loved, but lonely, and is desperate for a change in her hum drum life. This is until she discovers Prince, a puppy that shows her love and loyalty is boundless. Prince is her best friend, her comforter, her change in life. Prince brings her a new, better way to live.
When Lottie passes an exam for a prestigious ballet academy, everyone is thrilled – apart from Lottie. Will she be able to be with Prince? The harsh terms may rip them apart, but Lottie won't let that happen. With unfaithful friends and a rude, rich boy against her, the academy might be tougher than she thinks, especially when her aunt makes a very big mistake. Will Lottie ever be with the two things she loves most at the same time?
I adore this novel – it is my favourite book. The words float of the page and swim into infinite possibilities, images that capture every phrase Godden wrote. The characters are so beautifully realistic, they must be real it seems. I didn't want to stop reading this, I wanted it to carry on and on. It pulls you into a world of pirouettes and playful puppies. I would highly recommend this book to ages 9+. This is an absolutely heart-warming read, which will make you laugh, cry and love it.
