When Noah and the Whale split back in April, its individual members each set up their own websites, giving a glimmer of hope to those heartbroken fans that soon there might be a collection solo projects to fill the void.
First came guitarist Fred Abbott’s one-man venture, then bassist Matt Owens, while violinist Tom Hobden has joined Mumford & Sons. Today, however, comes the turn of Charlie Fink, the band’s frontman. As well as working on his solo material, Fink will also be composing the score for the forthcoming theatre adaptation of the Dr Seuss classic The Lorax at the Old Vic in London.
In the meantime, he’s releasing My Hearbeat Lost Its Rhythm, a single that sounds much like an extension of the polished drive-time rock Noah and the Whale were making on their latter albums, but given a boost by its soaring synthpop chorus.
Recorded with Fink’s pals, the “future-funk maestros” Sozo & Lux, the track is set in New York City, where he’s been living for the past year. You can listen to it below:
