Marty Hurney has made some brilliant picks in the first round of the NFL draft over the years. Using his very first selection, he chose a guaranteed future Hall of Famer in Julius Peppers. Later, Hurney picked a few all-time franchise greats like Thomas Davis, Luke Kuechly and Cam Newton.
The Panthers are hoping that Hurney’s latest first-round pick will join that illustrious club of stars. Florida State defensive end Brian Burns went to the team at No. 16 overall in this year’s draft. Burns’ speed and length should make him a disruptive pass rusher at the next level.
