In more devastating news for Australia’s live music scene (or what’s left of it), Listen Out has announced that it will not be “going ahead” in 2025. Instead, it will be hosting “curated parties” with “some of the best artists in the world”.
Yep, that’s right. Another iconic Aussie music festival has dipped on out of the 2025 roster.
In an Instagram post on Monday, Listen Out — which has previously hosted big artists like Doja Cat and Skrillex — confirmed the news. However, to lessen the blow, it also announced a new project that’ll hopefully fill that festival-sized hole in your heart.
“Okay… deep breath. This one’s tough. Listen Out won’t be going ahead this year,” the statement began.
“We’ve always tried to build something special — where the lineup reflects the culture and the energy flows both ways between the artist and you… The last few years have been tough.
“So, we’re hitting pause on Listen Out as you know it, but we’re not going anywhere.”
The heartbreaking statement then turned into an introduction to “Listen Out Present”, which they claim is a collection of “one-off, carefully curated parties in killer locations around Australia all year long”.
“We’re still here for the good times… just in a new way. We’re not saying anything… for now,” the statement continued.

Punters react to Listen Out’s news
So far, Listen Out has seemingly copped a mixed bag of reactions, with some folks understanding the move and others confirming the death of Australia’s live music scene.
“That’s a joke, where are all the good festivals going? I was counting on Listen Out to pull through,” one person wrote.
“I feel sorry for the next generation of young music lovers. We were so spoiled 10-15 years ago. So sad to see festivals dropping like flies,” another penned.
“Fair! Good artists are too expensive these days to even make a festival viable… sad to see,” wrote a third.

Earlier this year, Splendour In The Grass announced that it wouldn’t be making a return in 2025, leaving punters shocked after it had been cancelled the year prior, despite boasting Australian icons Kylie Minogue and G Flip on its lineup.
More information regarding Listen Out Present is set to drop on Tuesday, July 8.
