Listen: Falcons WR Julio Jones explains why he didn’t hold out in training camp

Great receivers in the NFL usually come with drama of some sort. That stereotype doesn’t apply to Falcons wideout Julio Jones, though. He continues to be both a great player and great leader in the locker room. Despite not getting an extension done until the day before the season started, Jones showed up to training camp when most players in his situation would’ve stayed home.

So why wouldn’t a veteran like Jones avoid the daily grind of camp practices until he got his overdue extension? During an appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio, Jones said his main reason for showing up was that he didn’t want to be selfish.

Listen to the clip below where Jones mentions helping second-year wide receiver Calvin Ridley as one of the many reasons he felt obligated to show up.

After a tough first Week against Minnesota, Jones went off for 106 yards and two touchdowns against the Eagles in Week 2.

He has another good matchup this weekend against the Indianapolis Colts as the Falcons attempt to get to 2-1 on the season.
