Listen as man makes 999 call over food delivery

The police have shared a 999 call they received over a takeaway.

Now they are warning the public it's a crime and they will take action against anyone perpetrating it.

Chief Inspector Gerard Pollock said non-essential calls to the emergency phone line could mean real emergency calls may not be answered.

A PSNI spokesman said: "Calling 999 to ask for a takeaway to be delivered to your home is not an emergency – it’s a crime. It’s a waste of police time and could put the lives of others at risk. Make the right call. Only ever dial 999 in an emergency."

In the call a man tells the police call handler he was expecting someone to arrive at his house with some food.

CI Pollock said: "Calls like this to 999 are totally unacceptable. Please only ever call 999 in an emergency. Help us to keep you safe and make the right call."
