List of rarest 10p, 50p and £2 coins - including one worth up to £250

The rarest 10p, 50p and £2 coins have been revealed - and you may want to keep your eyes peeled for one specific coin that has jumped 23 spots since its release in October.

One has even sold for £250 online, so it’s well worth checking your change to see if you’re the lucky owner of any of these rare coins.

These findings are based on the latest Scarcity Index published by website Change Checker in November.

The list is broken down into three categories: the rarest 50p coins, and A-Z of 10p coins and £2 coins currently in circulation.

According to Change Checker, these are the UK’s most sought-after coins in circulation in the last three months.

Rarest 50ps - worth up to £250

At the very top of the list is the Kew Gardens 50p coin, which once again has been named the rarest 50p coin.

Experts at Coinhunter say the coin fetches an average of £156 on eBay - but they can sell for £250 or more.

The coin features the famous Chinese Pagoda intertwined with a leafy climber to mark 250 years since Kew Gardens first opened in 1759.

Coming in at second place for the rarest 50p is the Judo Olympics coin, released in 2011 as part of a 29 piece collection to celebrate the Olympics in London in 2012.

Designed by David Cornell, the coin features an image of two athletes mid throw in a Judo tournament.

Only 1,161,500 Judo coins entered into circulation in 2011, making it one of the rarest 50ps.

According to Coinhunter, a circulated Judo coin in good condition is worth around £10, but one of the highest bids we've seen on eBay is for £18.

In Change Checker’s latest list, the Pride 50 Year Anniversary 50p seems to be the star of the show, as it has climbed a massive 23 spots.

Five million of the new Pride coins entered circulation on October 25, 2022 to celebrate Pride UK’s incredible legacy of protest, visibility, unity and equality.

The reverse of the coin features five rainbows, designed by artist and LGBTQ+ activist Dominique Holmes.

Coinhunter estimates the worth of a Brilliant Uncirculated Pride coin to be around £4.50.

The coin has garnered significant interest since its release, and after climbing 23 spots on the index it may attract even higher prices.

Other releases from the Royal Mint that are likely to shake up the index include a new King Charles III 50p, along with a new memorial 50p to honour the late Queen, both available from December.

Another new 50p coin was released by the Royal Mint last month to mark 100 years of the BBC.

Rarest 10ps - worth up to £11.50

The Zebra Crossing 10p is selling for up to £11.50 (Royal Mint)

Change Checker’s 10p list is made up of the alphabet A to Z collection, released in 2018 and 2019 to celebrate all things British.

There are 26 coins in the set to correspond with the 26 letters in the alphabet.

At the very top of the list, is the letter Z 10p coin, which represents the ‘Zebra Crossing’ coin.

This 10p features the letter ‘Z’ across a Zebra Crossing as an ode to the iconic British Zebra crossing - mostly attributed to MP James Callaghan.

Zebra crossings became an iconic symbol in British pop culture after the release of the Beatles’ famous Abbey Road album cover, which shows the band pictured walking along the black and white striped crossing.

220,000 of these coins were issued for circulation in 2018 and 63,000 were issued for circulation in 2019.

You can buy one from Coin Hunter for £11.50 plus delivery.

Next on the list is W for World Wide Web, which features the letter W surrounded by a spiderweb.

Around 283,000 were issued for circulation in 2018, and we've spotted one that sold for £5 online in recent months.

Another 10p coin to keep your eye on is the 'T' 10p coin, representing tea.

This 10p has climbed 19 spots up the index and features a boiled traditional tea pot next to the letter ‘T’.

220,000 of these coins were issued for circulation in 2018 and 84,000 were issued for circulation in 2019.

According to Coinhunter, the coin is worth around £3.

The rarest £2 is the Northern Ireland £2 from the Commonwealth Games 2002 collection (Getty Images)

Rarest £2s - worth up to £50

The top three rarest £2 pieces are once again all from the Commonwealth Games 2002 collection.

The XVII 2002 Commonwealth Games £2 coins were created to mark the seventeenth games, hosted in Manchester from 25th July 2002.

Currently, the most sought-after is the Northern Ireland version, followed by England and then Scotland.

Each edition features the same base design but can be differentiated by their respective flag.

The Northern Ireland version, of which there are 485,500 in circulation, has sold for around £50 on eBay in recent months.

In terms of the England and Scotland editions, there are 650,500 and 771,750 copies in circulation, which could sell for around £17 to £20 on eBay.

The Shakespeare Tragedies £2 coin has climbed up the board by seven places.

This coin was released in 2016 to celebrate William Shakespeare’s literary work - and to commemorate the 400th anniversary since his death.
