List of businesses that still can't reopen next week as lockdown restrictions ease

England's lockdown restrictions are set to ease further from next week with non-essential shops reopening - but a number of businesses will still not be able to open.

Shops, hairdressers and beer gardens are all set to welcome customers again, in line with Prime Minister Boris Johnson's Step 2 out of lockdown.

However Professor Chris Whitty has warned that the country will face "significant problems with Covid for the foreseeable future" as society is unlocked further from April 12.

Step 3, which will allow indoor mixing of up to six people or two households and relax outdoor socialising rules, is due to go ahead on May 17.

The fourth and final step, from June 21, will see all legal limits on mixing removed and the reopening of the last sectors to remain closed, such as nightclubs. The ban on large events will be lifted, reports The Mirror.

While some businesses are rejoicing at being told they will reopen next week, many indoor venues will stay shut until at least the third step of the roadmap.

Cinemas, theatres, concert halls and adventure playgrounds are among those who will have to wait for a little while longer, with May 17 earmarked as the next possible date they might once again welcome customers.

What won't be reopening next week?

Cinemas

Cinemas, as well as other indoor entertainment, will be able to open as part of the third phase of the roadmap.

This is still expected to be no earlier than May 17, but depends on the Covid situation changing.

Drive-in cinemas will be able to open earlier, and can begin screening movies to an outdoor audience from Monday.

Theatres and concert halls

Also set to reopen in mid-May are theatres and concert halls.

But final numbers for maximum capacity limits at these indoor events have not yet been confirmed once venues reopen.

Museums and galleries

Indoor venues will not reopen next week and May 17 remains the target date set by the Government. This includes museums and galleries.

Outdoor museums, however, are set to open up to the public.

The Government has previously said that tests must be met on the Covid picture before moving into the next stage and so these dates remain conditional.
