List of 7 things you still cannot do as lockdown rules change

Today marks a change in the government's lockdown rules.

Some restrictions have been lifted while the country works towards a new normal.

The lockdown was announced by Prime Minister Boris Johnson on March 23 and major restrictions to daily life were introduced in a bid to curb the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

But some coronavirus lockdown rules are changing in England from Monday, June 1 as the country tries to return to normal.

All four nations are reducing restrictions on the public, but rules vary across the UK.

In England, the new rules mean we can now meet up to six people from separate households in outdoor spaces, as well as visit car showrooms and outdoor markets, but there are still a number of rules that remain in place.

Everything you still cannot do

Visit friends in their homes

You cannot visit friends and family inside their homes or stay overnight, but you can meet one other person from a different household outdoors - as long as you continue to follow social distancing guidelines.

Hotels remain closed in England and overnight stays are still prohibited.

Some forms of exercise

You cannot exercise in an indoor gym, sports court or leisure centre.

You are not allowed to go swimming in a public pool.

You're also not allowed to use an outdoor gym or playground.

Visit attractions

Private or ticketed attractions remain off limits for now.

Funerals

Funerals can go ahead but restrictions still remain in place.

You're not allowed to invite anyone other than close family or friends, as well as someone from the deceased's home, to a funeral.

Stay in another home

You're not allowed to leave your home in order to stay at another home.

Though day trips to outdoor spaces are allowed, you cannot stay the night.

When going out on a trip, people still have to maintain social distancing and hotels are still closed.

Share a private vehicle

Taking a car trip with someone from another household is not allowed.

Social distancing guidance remains in place, which isn't possible to adhere to when sharing a car.

Visit a second home

You're still not allowed to leave your home in order to stay at another home for a holiday or any other purpose.

This also includes visiting second homes.

Will there still be punishments for breaking the rules?

Yes, and fines for rulebreakers have been increased.

Penalties for a first offence are now set at £100, which can be reduced to £50 if paid within two weeks, and double for every subsequent rule breach, up to £3,200.
