LIST: 23 mayors, governor lose police control over 'corruption', drug links

MANILA, Philippines – The National Police Commission (Napolcom) released the names on Thursday, November 9, of local chief executives who have been stripped of powers over police.

On October 30, the Napolcom signed 9 resolutions declaring their powers over police null.

According to the front page of the resolutions released to the media, some were punished for their alleged drug ties, and others for abuse of power.

The following were the mayors named:

 

  1. Crisinciano Mahilac - Sinacaban Misamis Oriental
  2. Michael Gutierrez - Lopez Jaena, Misamis Occidental
  3. Donjie Animas - Sapang Dalaga, Misamis Occidental
  4. Jason Almonte - Oroquieta City, Misamis Occidental
  5. Juanidy Viña - Concepcion, Misamis Occidental
  6. Ezel Villanueva - Calamba, Misamis Occidental
  7. Ferdinand Aguinaldo - Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte 
  8. Andres Lacson - Concepcion, Tarlac
  9. Edgardo Pamintuan - Angeles City, Pampanga
  10. Jefferson Khonghun - Subic, Zambales
  11. Erlon Agustin - Camiling Tarlac
  12. Eulalio Alilio - Lemery, Batangas
  13. Raul Palino - Teresa, Rizal
  14. Antonio Halili - Tanauan City, Batangas
  15. Cecilio Hernandez - Rodriguez, Rizal
  16. Loreto Amante - San Pablo City, Laguna
  17. Mariano Blanco III - Ronda, Cebu
  18. Pablo Matinong Jr - Santo Niño, South Cotabato
  19. Christopher Cuan - Libungan, North Cotabato
  20. Albert Palencia - Banga, South Cotabato
  21. Leonida Angcap - Midsalip, Zamboanga del Sur
  22. Nieves Cabunalda-Rosento - El Nido, Palawan
  23. Abraham Ibba - Bataraza, Palawan
  24. Wellie Lim* - Lugait, Osamis Oriental

 

Lim is no longer the mayor of Lugait, but was the incumbent local chief when the Napolcom investigation was ongoing. The resolution will no longer apply to him.

The only governor on the list was Antonio Cerilles of Zamboanga del Sur whose police control was taken away for supposed "abuse of authorities".

The resolutions follow the promise of President Rodrigo Duterte to target illegal drugs and corruption from top to bottom. – Rappler.com
