Parts of Lisburn have been left looking “horrendous” thanks to uncut grass verges, a councillor says.
The overgrown green areas were also said to be creating “dangerous” walk ways close to busy roads, according to Alan Givan.
The lack of maintenance of the green areas was identified by the DUP councillor following the cancellation of a Department for Infrastructure (DfI) report to Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council (LCCC).

The Lisburn South representative said: “I understand DfI has budget restraints... but there are areas where the weeds are three to four foot tall.
“This is a continuing problem year on year. Even when the grass is cut, the place is left looking an absolute disgrace.
“I am sure every member here would agree. This is horrendous.
“I look forward to the time that this is the responsibility of the council. We need to be keeping the city tidy for people to visit.”
The lack of attendance by DfI at the council headquarters was noted by Mayor Stephen Martin (Alliance) who said that members could have raised their concerns with the department directly.
Alderman Paul Porter (DUP) suggested that the LCCC should demand the presence of DfI as soon as possible.
“We need to be putting a letter forward to be asking DfI when they will be back to the council at their earliest convenience,” said Ald. Porter.
“This is a very serious matter and we would appreciate their presence in the chamber.”
