Lisburn and Castlereagh Council will close leisure centres and redirect resources to support the emergency response to Covid-19.
The local authority's coronavirus response was passed with cross-party support at a special meeting last night [March 18].
The Dundonald Ice Bowl, Irish Linen Centre and Lagan Valley Island will shut immediately.
Council events from now to June 30 till be postponed, including the Lisburn Half Marathon and VE Day Celebrations.
Parks and play areas, household recycling centre, allotments and public toilets will remain open.
Meanwhile Castlereagh Hills and Aberdelghy Golf courses will be open to members only.
Alliance Lisburn North Councillor Stephen Martin said elected members should work together to "live up to our civic responsibilities".
He added: "We were elected to lead. In London, in Dublin, in Stormont and here.
"I think political leaders need to co-ordinate and I think that extends to our higher-ups."
DUP Lisburn South Alderman Paul Porter added: "This should show the best of us over the next couple of months, and not the worst of us."
Chief Executive David Burn said council is working with Health Trusts and other agencies to plan how to best help people who are socially isolated, elderly and vulnerable.
Asked about free school meals, he said: "We have to make sure no child goes without."
Council is also considering a 'community hardship fund'.
All council and committee meetings will be postponed indefinitely.
Councillors also agreed to write to the health minister and all staff in the health sector to give thanks for their work.
