Lisburn BMX Club offering free coaching sessions to young kids

Lisburn BMX Club is hosting free coaching sessions this month aimed at teaching young kids the basics of BMX racing.

The 'Fundamentals Programme' will run for three consecutive Saturdays in March at the club's track in Bells Lane Park, Lambeg.

The initiative is aimed at young girls and boys aged 6-12 who will learn some of the core skills required to race a BMX bike.

Some of the skills taught during the sessions include:

  • Concept of Wheelie
  • Concept of Bunny Hop
  • Standing up riding position
  • Gate Basics & Balance
  • Pumping
  • Turning on berms
  • Full laps
  • Mock races

"After the three-week sessions the kids will graduate with a level of BMX skills that allows them to progress to the coached training and development sessions taking place during the week and weekends," the club said.

"This is an adrenaline-fuelled, cool sport and we know your kids will have fun and enjoy learning these new skills."

Lisburn BMX Club can provide bikes and protective equipment.

The coaching is free, but all riders must have (and show) a Cycling Ireland (CI) License or you can take one at the first session.
