Manchester United centre-back Lisandro Martinez has revealed that ex-Old Trafford defender Gabriel Heinze is his football idol, expressing that he loves the way the former defender played the game.
Martinez, who arrived at Old Trafford from Ajax in the summer transfer window, endured a difficult start to his United career and was taken off at half-time in the 4-0 defeat to Brentford in August. However, the Argentine has been impressive in the last two months and has asserted himself as a first-choice defender.
The 24-year-old has made 14 appearances for Erik ten Hag's side in all competitions and has quickly become a fan-favourite among the United faithful - with supporters lauding his aggression and passion.

"It was very emotional for me to experience that love from the fans," Martinez told Sky Sports. "It is also from me to them, that love. I am really happy because I came from nothing, you know. To come here to one of the best clubs in the world is very special."
Some fans have suggested that Martinez shares similar traits to former United defender Heinze - with the former admitting that his fellow countryman is his idol.
"Gabriel Heinze is my idol. I love him. I love the way he played, very aggressive, good mentality, good mentality in the duels. Every game as a final. He was a top player," Martinez stated.
When asked if he sees the similarities himself, he replied: "I try to play like him. We are a bit different as well, but I like his mentality."
He also revealed that the pair talked before Martinez joined the Red Devils in the summer, saying: "We just spoke about football and life."
Heinze made a total of 83 appearances for United during his time at Old Trafford, with the versatile defender winning the Sir Matt Busby Award as the Reds' player of the year in 2005.
