Lisandro Martinez has revealed that he discussed his move to Manchester United with Donny van de Beek to learn about the city.
A few weeks on from agreeing a £46.8 million, rising to £55.3m, deal with Ajax, United officially confirmed Martinez as their third summer signing on Wednesday. He follows Tyrell Malacia and Christian Eriksen to Old Trafford in a move that sees Erik ten Hag strengthen his defensive options.
The Argentine has signed a five-year contract at United to 2027, with the option of a further 12 months, and pulled on a red shirt for the first time shortly after his transfer was confirmed in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Wrexham at Carrington. Martinez partnered with Raphael Varane in defence as United ran out 4-1 winners.

Martinez has now revealed that he discussed moving to Manchester with midfielder and fellow Ajax alumni Van de Beek. He told United's in-house media: "Well, I spoke with Donny when everything was done, yeah. I asked something to Donny. We spoke a little bit about Manchester, so yeah."
Martinez has joined his former manager Ten Hag at United and the coach played a huge role in his decision to sign for the club. “Well, I was with him three years at Ajax and I know his style of playing," he added. "With him, I improved a lot to be honest. He’s here in Manchester now, so again the opportunity was there and for sure he’s very important in my career.
"[He's] very intense, for sure. Good football. Winning mentality, you know? That’s the most important, yeah. Every player needs to have things clear. I think he’s very clear also so I think with him every day you can learn and then in the game you can understand also fully – tactics and everything."
